External Water Leak

We were called out to investigate a persistent water leak at Stenhouse and Carron Parish Church. The 130-year-old property had an iron pipe running approximately 35 meters from the road to the water tank, and water loss was becoming a major concern.

We carried out a thorough survey using a combination of advanced leak detection methods. Acoustic detection helped us identify variations in sound that suggested a possible leak. We then used correlation analysis to pinpoint the exact location by measuring sound signal differences along the pipeline. To confirm our findings, we introduced tracer gas into the system, which escaped near the church’s fire exit. For accurate depth measurement, we used a CAT and Genny (Cable Avoidance Tool and Signal Generator) to ensure minimal disruption during the repair process.

Once the position of the external water leak was confirmed, we excavated the area and carried out a repair that successfully stopped the leak.
